The intelligence of nature

I was roaming about my office campus yesterday. It is a sprawling area and it has two makeshift water bodies. It is actually not even operational but has about 20% water. The area surrounding the campus is just empty land excluding some pockets of independent houses. The amazing thing was that there were about 15-20 storks in the water body. The campus was only operational recently. Somehow, these birds have a way of sensing the location of water here in the heart of this village. And it is anybody's guess where they come from.

Again, if you leave any food item outside for sometime, ants come there from nowhere. If you leave a large bowl of water in your backyard, birds start using it. There is a very deep sense of intelligence built into nature where these creatures perceive information related to their survival and procreation by tapping into this intelligence. Actually, I recently heard something that baffled me even more. Snakes at Velliyangiri can perceive if an "earthquake is going to happen in California". I trust the person who said this so that takes the bafflement to another dimension altogether.

We humans are also part of nature, only we don't behave that way. We are an arrogant lot, and only because we have access to the realm of logic and discretion. Even minor observation will tell that this logic is a pitiable substitute for the kind of intelligence that is in display on a day to day basis - take just our body for example. With this arrogance, we have brought this planet to the verge of a multi-pronged disaster - nuclear weapons, global warming and population. The irony is that, nature must display that same intelligence to sustain her blue planet - with our without humans. We can be sure she will, and we must brace ourselves for that.

Earth day

A beautiful message from GreenPeace.

But I would like to say "I want to learn how to live in a world where none of this is going to happen!"
Not the right message to give on a day like this, so I will stop here.

I know the very last slide also says "Let us give Earth a hand" and means with proper intention, but it is *us* who need a hand and we need to lift ourselves up, if at all we intend to. The Earth will do just fine for several thousand years going forward. Humans are just a blip in her scale of life!
