When I was driving to Mahashivarathiri, I had to witness a dog being run over by a truck. Unfortunately (yes, in the circumstances), the dog did not pass away and was alive after that. Many drivers thereafter (me included) stopped by the sheer helplessness of the dog - but then no one knew what to do. Painfully, it tried to yelp and cross the road from the middle to the end.
It was a village area, and I wasn't sure who could help. In any case, I don't think it would have survived the damage. Slowly, everyone drove away after watching the dog suffer the assault.
During Mahashivarathiri, several times during the night, this image was playing back inside me.
What should I do in such situations? I need help. This is not the first time this is happenning to me.

Humanitarian dilemma... If it's a city, calling blue cross is a simple thing to do, after taking the dog to a safer place away from the road. But in such remote places, I can't seem to be able to think of any other than taking him from the middle of the road to the safer side of the road... tough situation indeed...
Anna,
I have been pondering on this for too long. Have sent an email to blue cross india and international and PETA.
What to do- involves putting time into taking the dog to some place for treatment etc which will most probably be closed at night.
That dead dog highway outside Chennai is a torture route for me.
I hope to do work like Welfare of Stray Dogs, Mumbai. Take out a vetenary van that will neuter and treat all the stray dogs in and around Chennai.
Plan to catch hold of some rich philanthropic dog lover for funding this.
